Smart heating optimisation at the Birrhard site

18. November 2025

ERNE AG Bauunterenhmung relies on smart building technology to achieve a sustainable reduction in energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. In collaboration with Tesenso AG, Hälg and Jost Elektro AG, a forward-looking solution has been implemented for our heating system.

Our existing heating system has been fitted with an adaptive heating curve control system. In addition, nine ceiling-mounted fan heaters have been fitted with electronically controlled shut-off valves, which regulate heat demand on a zone-by-zone basis according to actual requirements.

The benefits
The intelligent control system automatically adjusts the flow temperature to the outside temperature, building behaviour and actual heat demand. The electronic valves enable precise control of individual zones – so heating is only provided where it is really needed.

The advantages

  • 20–25% reduction in energy consumption for heating

  • Lower CO₂ emissions

  • Greater comfort thanks to more consistent room temperatures

  • Transparent consumption data for continuous optimisation

Looking to the future
The consumption data collected provides valuable insights into the actual heating requirements of our buildings. This enables us to establish a sound planning basis today for any future replacement of the heating system – such as switching to a heat pump.

Our commitment
For us, sustainability means taking action in existing buildings too. This project demonstrates that environmental responsibility and economic efficiency go hand in hand.
