On the premises of Lagerhäuser Aarau AG in Hunzenschwil, ERNE is constructing a state-of-the-art high-bay warehouse and modern office space featuring attractive workspaces.

Just one year after the groundbreaking ceremony, our team unveiled the impressive 27-meter-deep excavation pit. It served as the backdrop for the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone for the Laufenburg Technology Center.

In the construction of the new technology centre in Laufenburg for the FlexBase Group, we have consistently prioritised sustainable building practices. This approach is evident right from the excavation phase: around 400,000 m³ of sandy and gravelly material is being extracted and specifically reused as a valuable raw material. The project demonstrates how modern circular economy principles can be successfully implemented in the construction industry.

Bözbergstrasse between Brugg and Fricktal is being upgraded: new road surfacing, accessible bus stops and an attractive cycle route – all whilst traffic continues to flow.

In 2026, we were once again ranked among the top 5% of employers and have been awarded the Top Company seal once more. This accolade confirms what we stand for: innovation, team spirit and a strong corporate culture.

The construction of the new Baselland Vocational Training Centre (BBZ BL) in Muttenz is creating a forward-looking educational centre featuring a modern learning environment and sustainable architecture. ERNE is building an innovative school building that provides the ideal conditions for learning, teaching and social interaction. 

This year’s ERNE Oktoberfest was buzzing with a real Oktoberfest atmosphere: from the hearty cry of “O’zapft is!” to the lively party. Over 800 staff members celebrated together, laughed, sang and once again demonstrated just how strong the ERNE team spirit is.

The Dorf Primary School in Sissach is set to be expanded by a new, underground triple-purpose sports hall by summer 2026. This will blend the historic surroundings of the existing primary school building with modern elements, whilst the space-efficient design will free up space above ground for an all-weather sports pitch.

The historic building is being converted into a six-storey retail and office building based on designs by Herzog de Meuron, with work due to be completed by December 2025. The conversion presents major challenges. Limited space for construction activities, including deliveries and storage; complex construction processes; the simultaneous demolition and new-build work; and structural gutting are just a few of the key issues.

Fabio Pesavento, Project and Team Leader at ZPF Ingenieure, answered five interesting questions for us about the refurbishment of Basel’s main post office.

On 22 May, the Old Main Post Office in Basel became the venue for a very special customer event. Under the slogan “Here’s where the action is”, around 300 guests were given a behind-the-scenes look at the extraordinary “Basel Main Post Office” construction project, where vision, craftsmanship and team spirit come together.

Wie bleibt man cool, wenn plötzlich eine Kamera läuft? 

Since June 2024, a new two-unit apartment block has been under construction on Limmattalstrasse in Zurich. The ERNE building construction team in Zurich has so far poured floor slabs, various walls – some of which are exposed concrete – and ceilings, carried out bricklaying work, and constructed beams and ramps.

What makes this project special is that the client requested the use of CO2-neutral concrete. This is not an everyday occurrence for ERNE. 

A major expansion of the ProRheno Basel wastewater treatment plant will bring its current capacity – which serves the approximately 270,000 residents of the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft – into line with the population growth expected in the catchment area by 2040. The refurbishment and expansion of one of Switzerland’s largest wastewater treatment plants is only possible if everyone involved in the project pulls together and works in unison to develop the best possible solutions.

By 2026/27, a completely new neighbourhood is set to be built on the “Koch-Areal” brownfield site, comprising 350 affordable homes for 900 people as well as commercial space. The schedule is ambitious, and this major construction project demands reliability and expertise from all partners. 

In just one night, our demolition team in Zurich dismantled the 28-year-old footbridge connecting two buildings belonging to Swiss Radio and Television (SRF). The challenge for our team was to dismantle the bridge at a considerable height into three sections and lower them down individually. The longest section measured 30 metres and weighed 25 tonnes, whilst the bridge had a total length of 60 metres. The bridge foundations will be dismantled in a further operation.

Last Friday, around 40 people applauded at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new triple sports hall at the Dorf primary school in the municipality of Sissach. The project by general contractor ERNEplus emerged as the winner of a comprehensive design competition, having impressed the jury with the building’s low environmental footprint and the conservation of land reserves.

In 2024, ERNE AG Bauunternehmung is once again among the top five per cent of employers listed on kununu to receive the kununu Top Company seal. We are also delighted to be among the top 1.5 per cent of Swiss companies in the construction and architecture sector to have been awarded this seal.

ERNE optimised the progress of the new heating plant project in Lupfig using smart solutions. By proposing an attractive contractor’s alternative, our team improved health and safety, quality and efficiency on the project, a move which was also welcomed by the client, IBB Energie AG.

Our construction programme for the Binzenhof stop in Aarau was as meticulously timed as a timetable. We carried out the refurbishment of the stop on behalf of Aargau Verkehr AG.

The Neumatt 2.0 development is currently under construction on a site of around 14,500 square metres on Münchwilerstrasse in Stein/AG. It comprises four residential buildings built to the Minergie-P standard, offering a total of 76 flats, four communal areas, 124 underground car parking spaces, 20 motorbike parking spaces and 176 bicycle parking spaces. Green spaces and communal areas connect the four buildings.

Construction work on Zurich’s new ‘Zwhatt’ district in the Regensdorf-Watt area will take place in Regensdorf between 2022 and 2030.

Centrally located in Stein, ‘Casa Cura’ is a modern centre for health, housing and care. The 1,800 m² residential building with integrated healthcare facilities was realised by ERNE as a BIM pilot project.

In Oensingen, ERNE completed a new 150-metre-long building with a complex structural layout for the long-established company Bell. The particular challenges of this industrial construction project, which was divided into six construction sectors, were the varying floor levels and steps. For this BIM2Field construction site, our VDC department created the three-dimensional as-built model based on the 2D plans.

The expansion and refurbishment of the wastewater treatment plant in Kloten was a challenging hydraulic engineering project. The existing infrastructure, which was between 25 and 55 years old, was modernised by ERNE. 

The eastern bypass, which relieves the historic centre of Bad Zurzach of through traffic, is over a kilometre long and runs through a 530-metre tunnel. The bypass connects Bruggerstrasse and Zürcherstrasse via a two-lane cantonal road and is used by around 10,000 vehicles every day.

The building services company Meier Tobler has built a new service centre in Oberbuchsiten. The project involved the planning and construction of a modern, environmentally friendly new building.

In the Rombach district of Küttigen, ERNE developed the «Baumgarten» residential complex, comprising 163 residential units, on the site of the former Hauenstein tree nursery. Covering a total area of 34,000 m², three distinct building zones have been created, offering living spaces to suit the highest standards and every taste. 

Following a long and intensive planning phase, resurfacing work on Kaistenbergstrasse began in January 2021. On the cantonal road between Frick and Kaisten, the existing surface was completely removed and replaced with a new three-layer surface. 

For the new B-7281 wildlife underpass in Brugg, which reconnects the interrupted Schinznach-Bad wildlife corridor, the SBB railway line and the cantonal road had to be crossed via an underpass. The project was carried out by ERNE as a turnkey civil engineering contract. During a weekend operation, a concrete structure weighing 1,000 tonnes was moved into position within 56 hours.

After excavating 82,000 cubic metres of earth, we completed the construction of the new Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare innovation campus next to the world-renowned Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Villigen – a significant milestone for the canton of Aargau as a centre for business and science. 

In 2018, the ERNE plus joint venture won the tender for the overall management of the new construction of a multi-storey building housing offices and investigation rooms for the Zurich City Police. Construction work on the turnkey project began in October 2018. A number of challenges had to be overcome during the civil engineering and structural works.

The expansion of the Bad Zurzach wastewater treatment plant was carried out by the hydraulic engineering specialists at ERNE AG Bauunternehmung in close collaboration with Gebrüder Meier AG Rohrleitungsbau. 

The ruins of Neu Schauenburg Castle in Frenkendorf are in need of renovation due to sections of the walls collapsing. In addition to the need for specialised transport of materials, the renovation required the craftsmanship and expertise of the client’s masons.

Demolition, conversion and new-build projects in the heart of Basel. ERNE is constructing office and residential buildings on the corner of Leonhardstrasse and Steinengraben, in some cases under challenging conditions.

The ambitious comprehensive renovation of the historic main building of the Basel Barracks. Curved arches instead of straight lintels in larger openings, as well as an exceptional aesthetic for the red exposed-concrete stairwell, are challenges that the ERNE team is tackling.

The Laufenburg Vicarage is a historic building and is listed. The ERNE specialist bricklayers renovated the west façade of the building on behalf of the Laufenburg parish office.

The construction of the new combined sewer overflow basin for the Liestal wastewater treatment plant presented a number of challenges for ERNE’s civil engineering team: working below the water table and working in confined spaces due to the retaining sheet piling. 

On Aarburgerstrasse in Olten, ERNE carried out a refurbishment project using traditional concrete repair methods – the concrete is removed using high-pressure water jets and then reapplied using new sprayed mortar.

In the Bözberg/Riniken area, a 380-kilovolt high-voltage power line has been laid underground for the first time. ERNE’s civil engineering specialists carried out work on steep slopes and rocky terrain, as well as constructing an underpass beneath the SBB railway line and Bözbergstrasse.

The new-build project for Roche presented an exciting challenge for the teams at ERNE Hochbau. The complexity of the buildings, the tight construction schedule and the stringent safety requirements posed a number of challenges for the teams at ERNE Hochbau.

Work on the refurbishment of the west wing of Basel SBB station is progressing. The time-lapse video shows the demolition, the installation of micro-piles to support the building, and construction work taking place near the railway line.

Building a new ramp – that sounds like a straightforward job. But demolishing and rebuilding the access road to an underground car park in Basel proved to be a real challenge. The obstacles: extremely limited space and numerous complicating factors on site.

Hall temperatures of 30°C, high salt content in the water and a relative humidity of 65% place high demands on the building construction. The ERNEplus project team consulted with the ERNE site managers as early as the planning phase of the turnkey project to ensure optimal work preparation. In addition, a special concrete mix with the “seawater” exposure class was produced in collaboration with K+B Münchwilen.

Due to the limited space in the heart of the company campus, which is home to office and laboratory buildings where around 2,000 people work, the demolition had to be carried out with as little pollution as possible. This was no easy task. With the aid of a protective screen, the demolition was completed systematically and without causing any pollution.
