Customer bricklayers renovate the facade of the Laufenburg vicarage
January 22, 2020
The Laufenburg rectory is a historic building and is a listed building. The ERNE customer bricklayers renovated the west façade of the building on behalf of the Laufenburg rectory and gave the façade a smooth appearance. As the façade is old and also a listed building, the work could not be carried out mechanically. They were therefore carried out manually by the bricklayers from ERNE Bauservice. First two and then eight bricklayers were deployed.

Refurbishment with obstacles
In the past, facades were plastered with cement, which meant that the walls underneath could not breathe well enough and moisture could not escape. This resulted in unsightly gray stains on the masonry. The vicarage was also plastered with cement, which is why the entire façade first had to be washed down and the cementitious plaster removed. The entire façade is also made of natural stone. Over the years, patches were created which were repaired with bricks. However, these have the disadvantage that they absorb moisture like a sponge and start to rot.

During the renovation, our customer bricklayers replaced the brick patches with natural stone. Using a lime mortar, our team first supplemented the base plaster and then filled it over the entire wall. To avoid stress cracks, a nylon stress net was also inserted. Then the 0.5 millimeter abrasion was applied and felted off with a sponge. This work step had to be repeated due to the low outside temperatures - the abrasion is less effective at low temperatures - in order to achieve a perfect result and a smooth surface. After this work, the project was completed for our customer's masonry team and the painter was able to paint over the finished façade.
