Road resurfacing on the Bözberg Pass

The Bözberg Pass links Brugg with the Fricktal region, where a route from Vindonissa to Augusta Raurica already existed in Roman times. The Bözberg Road between Brugg and the Böztal valley is now being upgraded. The aim of the renovation is to replace the surfacing, some of which is thirty years old, and to bring the cantonal road up to modern standards. This includes new, durable surfacing, an attractive cycle route and the barrier-free upgrading of the bus stop. Everything is being carried out in stages whilst traffic continues to flow – a real challenge requiring precision, coordination and strong nerves.
The situation on the construction site is currently looking encouraging. The section from Lynn to Effingen, around two kilometres long, and the section from the Umiken roundabout to Bözberg have already been fully completed. In the section between Bözberg and Neustalden, work on utility lines, water supply and kerbs is still ongoing.
It wasn’t without its challenges. Particularly in the first stage, numerous design changes and additional measures led to delays, especially with the complex natural stone and retaining walls. A key factor in the project’s success remains the collaboration within the Romana consortium. The teams from the Aarvia Group and ERNE work closely together in a collegial spirit and with mutual trust. Support is a way of life and solutions are found together.
Completion of the refurbishment is scheduled for May 2026. The final surfacing works are due to be completed by June 2026.
