THIS WAS THE PLACE TO BE: AN EVENING FULL OF EMOTIONS, ENCOUNTERS AND ARCHITECTURE

May 22, 2025

On May 22, the Alte Hauptpost Basel became the stage for a very special customer event. Under the motto "This is where the action is", around 300 guests took a look behind the scenes of the extraordinary "Hauptpost Basel" construction project, where vision, craftsmanship and team spirit come together.

After a brief welcome by Andreas Vetsch, Head of Baumeister Basel, Yasmin Kherad, architect and associate of Herzog & de Meuron, took us through the architectural concept behind the conversion. She gave an impressive demonstration of how the past and present can be harmoniously combined. Nicolas Egli, team leader of the Basel conversion, took us on a personal journey: as a Basel native with deep roots in the area, this project is a childhood dream for him. He also told us about the challenges that had to be overcome due to the limited space in the middle of the old town, among other things. Alex Gutzwiller, foreman, also has a special connection to Swiss Post. He completed his initial training as a postman before completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer followed by further training as a foreman. This has brought him full circle. Alex Gutzwiller is responsible for managing the construction site with great enthusiasm and passion and told us all about it. Finally, Giuseppe Santagada, CEO of the ERNE Group, thanked everyone involved for their tireless efforts and presented a special gift to Yasmin Kherad (Herzog & de Meuron) and Florian Schrenk (Head of Project Management Basel at Drees & Sommer) on behalf of the company. Many thanks also went to the client, AXA Investment Foundation.

After the presentations, our guests enjoyed an atmospheric aperitif riche, a free tour of the building and a unique view over the rooftops of Basel while engaging in lively discussions.

In times of digital construction sites, e-mail and chat, we had some real manual work for a change: writing postcards like in the old days! Our guests picked up a pen, wrote personal lines and dropped them in the yellow postboxes in proper style. Where else, if not in the old main post office?

This evening impressively demonstrated our passion for building and our careful handling of historical substance - a tradition of innovation.

A big thank you to everyone who made this event unforgettable. We look forward to the next chapters together.
