Students Build a Bicycle Shelter

The new Stein Cantonal School was built using a modular construction method by ERNE Holzbau. Our students built the accompanying bike shelter entirely on their own from start to finish.
Project Management and Planning
Sina, a third-year EFZ drafting apprentice at ERNE Holzbau, took the lead as project manager. She drew up the construction plans and coordinated all the companies involved.
Janick, an EFZ-certified road construction apprentice, and Luca, an EFZ-certified masonry apprentice at ERNE AG Bauunternehmung, laid the solid foundation. They first carried out the excavation, installed the water and electrical lines, and completed the work by pouring the concrete foundation for the bike shelter.
At the same time, aspiring carpenters Alexander, Finn, and Marc cut the material for the side and exterior walls to size according to the plans in HUSNER’s production hall. To ensure the wood’s durability, they treated it with a UV-protective coating. At the construction site, they erected the wooden structure with team member Lyon and installed the sheet-metal roof.
ERNE Spirit in Action
The high degree of autonomy in the project sparked a great deal of initiative among our apprentices. A solution-oriented dynamic quickly developed among them, one that also allowed for mistakes. This project reflects the ERNE Spirit, which is already being embodied by even our youngest apprentices.
The result is impressive: a construction project planned, built, and erected by our motivated apprentices. It’s a great example of the practical focus and versatility of our training programs, as well as the cross-company collaboration within our corporate group.
