ERNE ENTERS INTO A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ETH SPIN-OFF OXARA

In early May 2024, Oxara AG and ERNE AG Bauunternehmung signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a partnership. This moment marks the beginning of a joint effort aimed at developing clay-based building materials by leveraging their combined resources and collective expertise.

As a leading player in the Swiss construction industry and a builder with a long tradition, ERNE AG Bauunternehmung shares a common goal with Oxara: the development of alternative building materials that contribute to a more sustainable and in particular, lower-carbon built environment.

Through this partnership, ERNE aims not only to transform the Swiss construction landscape but also to set a new standard for sustainability within the industry. The ERNE Group has been involved in earthen construction for quite some time, but finding the right binder has been a challenge until now. Thanks to Oxara, this challenge can now be overcome.

About Oxara

Oxara AG is an ETH spin-off founded in 2019 with the vision of enabling sustainable construction and affordable housing. To this end, founders Dr. Thibault Demoulin and Dr. Gnanli Landrou have developed a patented additive and binder technology that transforms construction waste and excavated materials into circular, cement-free, and unfired building materials. Compared to conventional bricks and concrete, this approach achieves up to 90% recyclability,a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions, and 100% cement-free construction, while still meeting the performance requirements for the construction of 3- to 6-story buildings.
